OSHO SANNYASIN: SWAMI ANAND ARUN OF OSHO TAPOVAN, NEPAL

A PERFACT 'MISSIONARY' WITH LITTLE KNOWLEDGE OF OSHO'S VISION; HAS BEEN WORKING AGAINST ITS EBELLIOUSNESS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF ORTHODOX OSHO SANNYASINS OF HIS FLOCK

I AM AGAINST MISSIONARIES; IT IS AN UGLY PHENOMENON………..OSHO

At several occasions Osho was asked by his friends and lovers as to how they can spread his vision and message of meditation and love in the world. In reply to the same the response of Osho was always strange and unexpected:-

BELOVED OSHO,
MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE I WANT YOUR VISION TO HAPPEN. WHEN I AM NOT WITH YOU, AND I AM OUT IN THE WORLD, ALONE, WHAT PART CAN I PLAY IN HELPING YOUR VISION TO HAPPEN?

“Just be yourself, utterly yourself. And never think in terms of how you can help my vision to happen in the world, because that’s what makes a missionary – and I am against missionaries. They are the prisoners. Their intention is good, they want to spread something which they feel is immensely valuable, but a missionary does not know that what he is trying to spread is not his own experience. So I would like to make it clear that you just be yourself, and that will be the way of spreading my message to people, because that’s my message – to be yourself authentically, sincerely. It is not a question of saying something to somebody; it is a question of being somebody in a way that the vision radiates from you... that the people feel that something has happened to you that has not happened to them... that there is something in you that they are missing... that you are full and they are empty... that you can give and yet you will not be losing anything. And they are only beggars; they cannot give, they can only take. And whatsoever they take also disappears soon because it is not their own. I would not like my people to be like Christian missionaries.”                                                                                     (The Last Testament)

The above reply was a hit of Osho’s Zen stick to those who wanted to be leaders or gurus of others before realizing their own enlightenment or who would pose themselves as enlightened and play the role of religious leaders. This was a great blow to their ego. Nobody would have expected such reply. Anybody would have expected that Osho will advise the ways and means through which His vision could be spread so that more and more people could benefit from the same. But the condition which has been set by Osho for His vision to happen in the world is almost impossible. Many Osho sannyasins must have thought that Osho should not have said this. But a man of full awareness well understands the mind of the man asleep. It is easy for a blind to take the words of awakened man as his own and become a preacher. But to awaken is arduous and there is no scope in this process to nourish one’s ego.

In spite of what Osho has said above, many of His sannyasins have been devoting their most of the time and energies for spreading His vision by way of being preachers rather using the same time and energy for their own awakening. Such sannyasins have created their own groups and become the leaders of others and are on the run all over the world to increase the number of Osho Sannyasins as their own followers in the same terms as Christian missionaries are engaged in the whole world to increase the number of Christians. This is clear politics in Osho’s terms. This dangerous development was well foreseen by Osho while replying the questions regarding spreading his vision. But many ignored what Osho had said because it hurts their vested interests to become gurus or leaders of others and thereby nourish their ego.

UNLESS THEY EXPERIENCE, THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SPREAD ANYTHING
At another occasion similar question was put before Osho that, being their master His disciples are taking His words to others. Osho’s response to the same was sharp and direct:-

Q: This morning you said something about that believing is just carrying on knowledge from somebody else. But isn’t that exactly what these sannyasins are doing?
A: No.
Q: They're taking your knowledge to themselves.
A: No. They are not. They are experimenting, they are meditating; and unless
they experience, they are not allowed to spread anything. It is none of their
business. I'm alone enough. I have my ways, just sitting here in this chair I can
flood the whole world with my ideas. What is the need for them? They have to
experience first. Unless it becomes their own, they are not to become
missionaries. I hate the word missionary. Each sannyasin should speak on his
own authority, then there is strength.

Now, if it is not your experience, from where you are going to have strength?
Books and knowledge derived from books cannot be your strength. I want my
people to be strong, that if somebody does the same thing as I did to Stanley
Jones they need not say, that "It is not our experience, we have believed in a
master and we are repeating like parrots." No, that will be ugly. I would not like
these people to say that. It is better to say, "I don't know."

Unless you know, don't bother to say anything to anybody. When you know,
you will have to say -- because then you become just like a rain cloud, which is so
full of water that it has to rain somewhere or other.

The moment you know you become a rain cloud, and then it is something totally
different. You are not a missionary; you are not changing anybody and trying to
convert him to your faith. You don't have any faith, you have certain experience and out of sheer love you are sharing it. If that sharing transforms the man that is a different thing; it is not conversion, it is transformation.    (The Last Testament Vol. 2 # 5)

WHILE ASLEEP, ALL YOUR ACTIONS ONLY NOURISH YOUR EGO

The fore-runner among these missionaries of Osho’s vision is Swami Anand Arun of Osho Tapovan, Nepal. In his interview given to ‘Sadhana’ Path in December, 2013 issue, he describes how hard he has been working to spread the message of Osho to the people at large and increasing the number of Osho’s sannyasins. In a reply to the question he vehemently opens the accounts of his achievements in the following words:-

“I have initiated into sannyas total ninety thousand – seventy thousand in Nepal and twenty thousand outside Nepal. Now we have trained another fifteen people for giving sannyas initiation. Most of the people take initiation in Nepal itself. Here initiation is given in three days in a week. Three thousand people are initiated here in a year in average. We have done great work for Bhagwan in Nepal. People from eighty nations visit us here in Tapovan every year. This center has now become most active and Osho has become very prestigious here. Prime Minister and President also come here. This year (2013) we have for the first time raised Osho’s Jhanda (flag) in America also on 11th October. We have hoisted Osho’s ‘parcham’(glory) there also by opening an Osho commune there.”

“I have opened about 180 (Osho) centers in whole of the world. Now in abroad only those centers are functioning which I had opened. I trained the people how to run (Osho) centers, how to conduct (Osho) camps and how to give sannyas (initiate people into Osho sannyas with mala.)I have now trained 20 people in abroad and 15 in Nepal who can give sannyas to others or open their own (Osho) centers. We promote and give moral support to those who want to open (Osho) centers. Apart from this we provide them basic facilities like books, C.D.s or cassettes. I am preparing such people in whole of the world who can enhance Osho’s work.”

By opening these accounts, what Mr. Arun wanted to convey? He wanted to convey that he is ahead of all. There is no comparable to him. That he has given extra-ordinary contribution to Osho’s work by devoting his whole life and energy. (And what about his own enlightenment? Has he arrived? This is not what Osho has taught.)That he has increased the number of Osho sannyasins by initiating many people to sannyas and converting them into Osho’s followers. That he has been instrumental in opening many Osho Meditation centers in many countries. Many people must have been appreciating his work. But Osho will not appreciate the same in view of what He has said above. He attributed everything done to himself and gave it the publicity. Further, it would not have been so bad an act had he not boasted and bragged about it and opened his accounts. It would have been a gesture of a real Osho sannyasin if he had just said that he was doing what he thinks proper and what he could do. But his declaration and boasting of his contribution to Osho’s work shows that this all game has just nourished his ego. The actions and deeds which nourish one’s ego have nothing to do with Osho’s work; these fulfilled his own desires to be somebody special whereas Osho’s sannyasin is he who is on the path of being nobody; to have no distinction among others:-

“Those who just  stand at the back, unassuming, not trying in any way to be felt by others, by me, not trying in any way to be recognized…because all those problems are nothing but devises to be recognized….
That is one of the ways of the ego: ego always wants to declare to the world, “Look, I am here”. It wants its presence felt.
Those who keep silent, those who keep hidden, those who are here and whose presence is not felt will be benefited the most by me.”  ( At The Feet Of The Master P 153-154)

A MAN OF MEDITATION BECOMES NOBODY AND ABIDES IN NOTHINGNESS

“THE MAN OFTAO REMAINS UNKNOWN.
PERFECT VIRTUE PRODUCES NOTHING.
NO SELF IS TRUE SELF. AND THE GREATEST MAN IS NOBODY.”

“Listen.... The man of Tao remains unknown. Not that nobody will know him, but it is up to you to discover him. He is not making any effort to be known. Effort to be known comes from the ego, because ego cannot exist when you are unknown, it exists only when you are known. It exists, feeds, when people look at you, when they pay attention to you, when you are somebody important, significant.”

“But how can you be significant if nobody knows you? When the whole world knows you, then you are significant. That is why people are after fame so much, and if fame cannot be achieved then they will settle for being notorious -- but not for being unknown! If people cannot praise you then you will settle for being condemned, but you cannot bear that they should be indifferent to you.”

(The Empty Boat # 2)

Reading the claim made by Swami Anand Arun in the above interview we are reminded of a similar incidence which took place in China during the reign of emperor Wu. Emperor Wu had done much more for the spread of Buddhism in China as compared to that what Mr. Arun has claimed to have done as a missionary of Osho’s vision, is nothing. The emperor had also opened his accounts before Bodhidharma with the hope that Bodhidharma would appreciate his contribution. But one can deceive and impress the common masses with such acts, whereas it is not possible to deceive or impress the enlightened person like Bodhidharma. Such person has very penetrating eyes which can see the person and his ego clearly. Had Mr. Arun explained his actions in the same way before Osho, he would have received the same response as was received by emperor Wu from Bodhidharma. Here we give the relevant part of the story of the incidence as told by Osho:-

“Bodhidharma perhaps is the greatest of all these four. He was born in India and went to China. And his fame went ahead of him; the great Chinese emperor had come to receive him on the border. And the emperor had done great service to Buddhism – he had made thousands of temples and thousands of monasteries, and he had thousands of scholars translating all the Buddhist literature from Pali to Chinese.”
“He had put all his treasures in the service of Buddhism. He changed the whole of China to Buddhism – his name was Emperor Wu. And naturally, every Buddhist who had come before Bodhidharma had told Emperor Wu, ”You have earned great virtue. You will be born in the seventh lotus paradise, the highest paradise in Buddhist mythology. You have done such great work that there is no comparison – even Ashoka is left far behind.”
“Emperor Wu, gracefully bowed down, touched the feet of Bodhidharma and asked him, ”What is my virtue?”
And Bodhidharma said, ”None!”
The emperor was shocked. He said, ”But I have made so many temples, and I have made thousands of Buddha statues, and I feed thousands of Buddhist monks. I have changed the whole of China to Buddhism. And you say that my virtue is nil? Will I not be able to be born into the seventh lotus paradise?”
Bodhidharma laughed, he said, ”You will be born in the seventh hell!” (Light on the Path # 10)

There is nothing bad in spreading the words of an enlightened master. But to brag about it and give publicity to what one is doing or have done causes great harm to the person as well as to the work because the motive of such act is only to nourish one’s ego. And EGO IS THE FIRST AND LAST BONDAGE! Whosoever nourishes it cannot help others, rather he will harm them. This ego manifests in different colors and designs. Still it remains invisible because it sits on the head of the person. It however, remains visible to the others but its host always remains blind to it. It can even speak the language of egolessness to nourish itself. It is the shadow of our all actions, emotions and thoughts. And when the actions, emotions and thoughts are that of religious or spiritual nature, the ego takes religious color and becomes more elusive. Osho has been reminding his friends and lovers in whole of His life to remain aware of their ego and should work to go beyond it. It can be transcended only through meditation. But it seems that very few could understand and proceed in this journey; but many others, unfortunately, are caught in ego trap knowingly or unknowingly. Swami Anand Arun also seems to have been caught in this trap. Here we will try to point towards his head where the ego is sitting.

MORE PEOPLE YOU CONVERT MORE YOU ARE CONVINCED TO BE A LEADER
Ninety thousand followers, 180 centers all over the world is a great achievement. He is doing the same as the missionaries of Christianity and other organized religions are doing – converting people to their religion. This is destroying the uniqueness of Osho’s vision and undoing all that Osho has done. This is not Osho’s work; this is Swami Arun’s work. Osho has nothing to do with such work because at several occasions He has condemned missionary work. Before one’s enlightenment, all his actions strengthen his ego. That is why people prefer to be missionary and avoid the arduous work of awakening themselves.

“Naturally, you will be in an embarrassing situation – because I gave you religion, I gave you a certain leadership. You created around you a following. You created, converted, and convinced people of the truth of the new religion. And the more people were convinced by you, the more you were convinced that certainly you are a great leader.”                                                                      (OSHO)

NOBODY IS CAPABLE TO GIVE SANNYAS; IT IS A COMMITMENT BETWEEN A PERSON AND EXISTENCE.

He has also enthusiastically declared that he had been giving sannyas to people with mala. This shows that he has no knowledge of what Osho has said about giving sannyas. Osho has since long stopped giving sannyas and mala.

Osho broke His silence after three years in 1984 and left His physical body in 1990. This period was to complete the circle --- the circle which was started in 1960 and reached to its original point in 1884. Osho again started to disown all those things which he had accepted in seventies: title of Bhagwan, Rajneeshism, Maroon cloths, Mala, Guru, Surrender…. Everything was discarded.
After 15 years of starting Sannyas initiation in Manali in 26th September, 1970, Osho made a very important declaration in which He destroyed with single stroke the religion which was growing around him. On that day Osho also relieved Sannyas from all external symbols. The same reads as under:

“And today I would like to declare something immensely important, because I feel perhaps this helped Sheela and her people to exploit you. I don’t know whether tomorrow I will be here or not, so it is better to do it while I am here and make you free from any other possibility of such a fascist regime. That is, from today, you are free to use any color of clothes. If you feel like using red clothes, that is up to you. And this message has to be sent all over the world to all the communes. It will be more beautiful to have all the colors. I had always dreamed of seeing you in all the colors of the rainbow. Today we claim the rainbow to be our colors.”

“The second thing: you return your malas – unless you wish otherwise. That is your choice, but it is not a necessity anymore. You return your malas to President Hasya. But if you want to keep it, it is up to you.”

“The third thing: from now onwards, anybody who wants initiation into sannyas will not be given a mala and will not be told to change to red clothes – so we can take over the world more easily!”

“Telling you that it is up to you to wear malas or not, it is up to you to be in red clothes or not, is not out of any hurt feeling in me. Nobody can hurt me – that is impossible, because in the first place I never expect anything from anybody. So disappointment is impossible. I have said these things because I love you, and I want you to be responsible and to take decisions on your own so that no fascist kind of regime again fetters you and destroys you. I cannot be with you always. One day I will have to leave my body, and then there will be every possibility of people exploiting you, becoming your leaders.”

Q. Have you stopped initiating people into Sannyas and creating disciples? …..
“What is discipleship?
It is the highest and deepest name of love. If you want to love me, how can I stop you? If you shed tears in love for me, how can I stop you? And if you dive into what I call meditation, how can I stop you? Whosoever wants to be a disciple, no one can stop him. And that is why I have dropped all the formalities that were there for making someone a disciple, because now I want only those who are coming toward me on their own accord, not via some other rout. Now, the whole responsibility is yours.”
“For instance we teach students in the first grade:  ‘A’ is for apple, ‘G’ is for Ganesha. In fact previously G used to be for Ganesha, now it is for Gadha, the donkey. It is a secular State. Here it is not appropriate that the word Ganesh appears in the textbook. But neither does Ganesh have anything to do with G or gadha. It is just a way to teach a small child. The child finds gadha or Ganesh more interesting. He does not find any interest in the letter g. But slowly, slowly gadha will be forgotten, Ganesh will be forgotten, only g will remain, and only g will be used.”
“If you keep having to read ‘a’ for apple, ‘g’ for Ganesh, by the time you enter the university, there will be no opportunity to study. Even to read one complete sentence will be impossible. And after reading it, it will become difficult to understand what the meaning is, because who knows how many donkeys and Ganeshas and mangoes will be in the sentence?”

“So when I started, I had to initiate people into Sannyas, to make people disciples. But how long can one play the joke of ‘gadhas’ and ‘Ganeshas’; apples and pineapples? Now Sannyas has matured. Now, formalities no longer have an important place.”
“Now, if you are in love, become a disciple. It is not something even to be talked about. Now, no need even to let anyone know: if it is your feeling, be a sannyasin. Now, the whole responsibility is yours. This is the sign of being mature. How long can I walk along with you, holding your hand? Before my hands are removed, I have to let go of your hands by myself, so that you can stand on your own feet – relying on your own hands, your own responsibility – and walk.”

THE PEOPLE ARE STILL GIVING SANNYAS JUST TO BECOME LEADERS OR ‘GURUS’

In spite of all what Osho has said about Sannyas initiation, the so called old sannyasins who left Osho Commune, Pune in the year 2000 and subsequently and who were banned for entering Osho International Meditation Resort, Pune for going against Osho’s vision, continued with the old Sannyas ritual. They are still initiating and making disciples, of course their own disciples and becoming their leaders or Gurus/Masters. They better knew that this Gurudom and hierarchy was not possible so long as they remain in Osho Commune, Pune.

Followers of Swami Anand Arun still wear saffron or maroon cloths and display malas in their neck with Osho’s picture in the locket to show the world that these are the people of Osho. Great disciples of a great world spiritual master. This is called ‘Ego Trap’ or ego coming from the back door.
In the interview given to the Hindi magazine ‘Sadhana Path’ Swami Arun also comments that Osho’s body was wrongly burnt, it should have been preserved. This also shows his lack of understanding Osho. He says:-

“On reaching Pune, it came into my mind that I have to bring the bones of Osho to Nepal and build His Samadhi there. Osho has said in 1974 i.e. in fourth discourse of ‘When the Flowers Showered’, “When I leave my body, don’t burn or burry it, but preserve it. My body will work for thousands of years and will give inspiration to lakhs of people.”
At that time old people (senior sannyasins in Arun’s sense) were not there in Pune Commune. All were new one and the power and administration were in their hands. When I came to know that they are burning Osho’s body, I told them on telephone ( about the wishes of Osho), but they ignored my suggestion. Osho used to say that the bodies of saints should not be burnt. But people forgot once Osho left His body. His body should have been preserved by building a ‘Samadhi’ just like that of Sai Baba of Shirdi. Even today if someone goes there, he feels a special kind of energy pushing his navel. The preserved bodies of saints always give energy to the bodies of people.”

The above statement shows that Arun is still not free from the conditionings that he has got from his earlier so called gurus. The same old rotten beliefs are following him. He should know that an enlightened master cannot be predicted. He lives moment to moment in absolute freedom. He can easily contradict his past statements when facing the new situations. Many times Osho has said that His latest statement about anything will be more near to truth. For detailed discussion on the point please click: OSHO VISION HAS GROWN LIKE A TREE: FROM SEED TO THE FLOWERING. Moreover, the people who were near Osho before He left His body were chosen by Osho. Osho did not chose the people on the basis of their seniority as sannyasins but by seeing their love, gratitude, devotion and understanding of His vision. He preferred new people because the old ones were suffering from superiority complex and wanted to be leaders and gurus. For more details on the point please click: OLD AND NEW OSHO SANNYASINS SYNDROME.

One sannyasin of our group was present in the Commune before Osho left His body. Immediately after Osho left His body, a statement was given in the Osho White Robe Meeting about the wishes of Osho. We advise Arun to see the video recording in the documentary ‘I Leave You My Dream’ and also read the books containing Osho’s discourses delivered in America and in subsequent years, before spreading lies about cremation of Osho’s body and not preserving it in a Samadhi.

Regarding Arun’s proposal that a Samadhi should have been built in which Osho’s body should have been preserved we advise him and our readers to click: OSHO’S SAMADHI BUILT OUTSIDE WILL NOT LIBERATE REAL SAMADHI  IS WITHIN YOU; THAT ONLY CAN LIBERATE.

THE SOURCE OF ENERGY IS WITHIN, NOT SOMEWHERE OUT SIDE

The people, who are asleep and are not aware of their inner treasure, search outside for Truth or energy. Man himself has the source of energy within himself. To tap this energy one has to go in, it cannot be plugged by going to America and searching for the followers.  It is equally futile to seek the same in the dead body of an enlightened master because whatever comes from outside cannot be permanent; it can at the most give only a taste of silence, it cannot give permanent enrichment of inner world. Anything borrowed cannot be of any real help. Osho is in everybody in the form  of witness. One needs to establish in the same. But the people who do not want to seek and search and want everything free and without giving the price for it, go on seeking the energy in the bones, statues and dead pictures of an enlightened master. This is strange. We suggest Swami Arun to go to the Samadhi of Sain Baba of Shirdi and seek enlightenment there, why is he wasting time in being Osho Sannyasin because His body has been burnt and there is no Samadhi to get energy.

NO INTERPRETER, NO VIVEKANAND IS NEEDED

Arun further states in his interview:-

“Osho is an enlightened person. The thoughts of enlightened man are very high and people in general have very low consciousness. They cannot understand Him directly. Just as Vivekananda is required to interpret Ramakrishna Paramhansa, so someone is needed as medium to interpret what Osho has said. In such situation we should become His mediums in the form of His disciples and try to take Osho to the masses.”

The above statement of Arun is simply hilarious and shows how little knowledge he has about the teachings of Osho. Whole of his above statement is against the vision of Osho. It seems Arun has been spending his time for increasing the number of his followers and opening meditation centers and had left with no time to listen to what Osho has said and to meditate. Had he experienced even a glimpse of no-mind or at least had little understanding of the rebellious element of Osho’s vision, he would have never said such words. We give below what Osho has said about the interpreters and interpretation of His teachings.

Osho has spoken in a discourse dated 12-02-1986:-

“Whatever I say to you, I know exactly why I am saying it, what it can do to you. what its basic purpose is, and the essential change that it can bring to your life.”

“I don’t need any interpretation. I don’t need any P.D. Ouspensky. I don’t need any help, because whatever I am saying I have not learned from anybody. I have evolved it with myself through lives, so I know every nook and corner of it. I have not suddenly got hold of it. I am absolutely aware of how it begins and where it leads and what the pitfalls are. And I can make you aware. And everybody can work individually; there is no need... because I have worked individually.”
“So because it has been my own individual growth, whatever I can give to you needs no group; you can work individually. That’s why it is easy for me to call you my friends, because I am creating in you the same desire – to move alone, to go alone, to risk, and not to be dependent.”

SPREADING LIES TO COLLECT PEOPLE IS AN OLD STRATEGY

We know the compulsion and intention of the people like Swami Anand Arun. They cannot become leaders of thousands of people and climb on the ladder of becoming gurus or mahatmas in the world of Osho without spreading such misunderstandings about His teachings. These are the people who are spoiling everything which is rebellious in Osho’s vision. Same people spoiled the message of Buddha, diluted the words of Mahavira and brought such great insights to the level of organized religions against which Osho has been speaking in His whole life.

Osho says His words need no interpreter but these mediators like Swami Anand Arun say that Osho could not be understood unless His words are not interpreted and explained by some Vivekananda. These people don’t know that Osho is not an illiterate person like Ramakrishna. Osho is well educated and can
communicate with highly intelligent as well as with the illiterate one. He knows the art how to reach every type of person because he is not a scholar. Moreover, there is nothing to learn in Osho’s vision except the art of meditation.

Swami Arun has also said in the above interview that he was pained seeing the changes that have been made in Pune commune. He says:-

“I felt deepest pain on seeing thousands of Osho’s devotees who had lived with Osho and had surrendered their life for Osho’s work, being banned from entering the Ashram. These people have banned me, Swami Narendera, Ma Dharam Jyoti, Swami Atul, Swami Rajneesh, Ma Neelam, Swami Tathagat, Keerti ji and hundreds of other Indian and foreign sannyasins who were surrendered to Osho. It is unfortunate that thousands of people like me who devoted their whole life for Osho, have been banned and cannot bow to Osho’s Samadhi even after paying huge entry fee there. It is a dictatorial decision. They have stopped the celebrations like Osho’s Birthday, Enlightenment Day and Master’s Full moon Day so that people cannot get together ( in Pune commune)”

TEACH ONLY THAT WHICH YOU FOLLOW AND LIVE

Do you know Mr. Arun? Ma  Yoga Laxmi, who has been Osho’s secretary for about ten years was banned for entering Osho Commune, Pune by invoking a crystal clear directive from Osho that people who are responsible for negative publicity against the Commune are banned until a public apology from them is printed both in the Osho Times and in the publication which printed the original material. In 1988, Ma Neelam delivered Osho's message banning Ma Laxmi – Osho’s secretary for many more years than Ma Neelam – for conducting a divisive campaign.
This is the procedure under which other sannyasins got themselves banned. They can give an apology and nobody will prevent them in entering Pune commune. But they will not give apology because it will hurt their ego. Thus, nobody is responsible for their ban except their ego.

It is for your further information that the people who go to Osho International Meditation Resort do not go there to bow their heads to Osho’s Samadhi. There is no Samadhi of Osho there because His body was burnt; His ashes have been kept there where people sit and meditate.

Regarding abolishing Osho Birthday celebration, Enlightenment day celebration and Gurupurnima celebration; these have been stopped by Osho himself. For this you have to read Osho’s books. This will also give you more information what Osho has been saying about these superstitions. Osho sannyasins celebrate there 365 days of the year without any excuse and without setting any wrong tradition in above names.

Swami Anand Arun further states:-

“Such people have entered in the management of Pune commune who have no love for Osho and no interest in expending His work. They slowly and slowly want to destroy Osho’s whole work. For this they have banned old sannyasins, removed Osho’s photos so that people could not get energy from them. They are carrying on the business running in crores by registering ‘OSHO’ as trademark and seeking copyrights of His whole legacy.”

The people who are managing Osho International Meditation Resort , Pune were chosen by Osho Himself keeping in view their love for Osho and devotion for His work. They are managing the resort in best possible way in spite of the negativity being spread by these so called old outgoing sannyasins. To read more about it please click: NOTHING IS WRONG IN MANAGING OSHO INTERNATIONAL MEDITATION RESORT, PUNE: One needs to have an unbiased and unprejudiced mind. They are doing extensive work to spread the words of Osho and His message of meditation, but are not keeping the accounts of the same showing to the people. No single person is attributing this extensive work to himself or to a particular person. You will not find any name or photo of those hundreds of people who are pouring their money and energy to this work. This is how Osho’s sannyasins should be. This is the proper way how Osho wanted his people to work because He hated missionary work. You can know about their contribution to Osho’s work in www.osho.com and other sister websites, facebooks etc.

If people can get any energy from Osho’s photos, these are available everywhere. They can print full wall-size photos and get energy at their own houses. For this they need not to come to Pune Meditation Resort. Here is meditation resort, people come here to meditate and relax and rely upon their own energy. Expecting anything from Photos is simply stupid. These people should go to the Ashram of Satya Sai Baba and pray before his picture for such things.

Regarding Osho’s trade mark and copyrights of His legacy please click our link: OSHO SANNYASINS AWAKE: Don’t support the forces which are against Osho Trade mark and Copyrights. And another link: OSHO WORLD FOUNDATION, NEW DELHI, INDIA: Spreading lies about Osho Trademark and Copyrights. Next extract of Swami Arun's statement given to 'Sadhana Path' is as under:

“There is a rebellion in the youths of the world, an inquiry and a thirst, and to take them to water is our duty. People are coming to us from all over the world. Twenty countries I visit and I have also contacts with the youths of eighty countries. But they are not getting a link. These people first go to Pune commune where they are so mistreated that they have to come back in despair. People have thirst for Osho and we also have His message, what they want is a bridge. In such situation it is our duty to quench their thirst.”

PEOPLE ARE COMING TO YOU BECAUSE OF OSHO AND HIS MEDITATIONS NOT BECAUSE OF YOU AND YOUR ASHRAM

It is wrong that there is a rebellion in the youths of the world. Had it been so whatever is going on in the name of religion ; what priests and politicians have been doing in the past and are doing at present as well, would have been stopped long before. Where were the rebellious young people of the world when Osho was being harassed in twenty one countries? Do you say these youths rebellious who call themselves Christians, Mohammedans, Buddhists, Hindus or communists and are fanatics of their beliefs? It is true that some of the youths have a search for Truth. If their search is true and deep, they will find the help and source but the mediators and middlemen are there who allure them to themselves posing themselves as leaders/gurus and misguide them. These missionaries start to exploit them by making them followers.

The people in Osho International Meditation Resort, Pune are very loving and helpful. We have never found or heard that they have mistreated any person. They, however, know how to treat negative minded people. If Arun treats it as mistreatment it is his problem.

People who are coming from different parts of the world to Osho Tapovan are coming because of Osho to learn Osho Meditations; they are not going there because of Swami Anand Arun or because of his Ashram there, as he thinks.

The people who are involved in Osho’s work and spreading His words are not more than postmen because what they are carrying is not their own experience. They can at the most be teachers of Meditation techniques. Swami Arun should not forget that he is doing the work of a postman and nothing more (in Osho’s terms).

ONLY MASTER CAN BRING THE TRANSFORMATION. THE MEDIUMS CAN SIMPLY SPREAD HIS WORDS

Bodhicitta, it is a simple phenomenon.

The people who had allowed me their total receptivity had become my messengers, but their function was not more than that of a postman. When you receive a love letter, don’t start kissing the postman!”

“And this is the difference: You can know a technique – but just to know a technique is one thing, to be a master is totally different. That is the difference between a scientist and a technologist. The scientist himself discovers – it is his own discovery, it is his own authority. The technologist simply imitates. He can do perfectly well as far as the objective world is concerned, but as far as the subjective world is concerned it is not possible.”

“Only the master can bring the transformation. The mediums can simply spread his word. The moment they start thinking that the respect and the honor is being given to them, they are no longer mediums. Then a dead technique is in their hands, which is not going to help.”

(Osho Upanishad # 23)

People are visiting Osho Tapovan from different countries is not something new. The credit does not go to Swami Arun or his Tapovan meditation center. The entire credit goes to Osho and His vision which is the need of the time. Osho International Meditation Resort, Pune has been visited by millions of people from all countries of the world for the last about 44 years. In these years Osho has reached to all those who are little awake and have any thirst and search for Truth. How this has happened is because of the media, print media, books and internet. The expansion of Osho’s vision has not been done by any missionary; their role in this work is nothing. They are taking the message to the people in a wrong way and with vested interests which has no place in Osho’s vision.

Mr. Arun says that in this situation it is their duty to quench their thirst.
He who has not quenched his own thirst cannot quench the thirst of others.  Moreover the idea that it is their duty to quench the thirst of others is egoistic. Moreover, “duty is a dirty word, four lettered of course”……(Osho). What one needs is to awaken himself and all else will happen around him; he need not to do anything. But before awakening himself one can deceive others in the name of spirituality. Missionaries of Osho’s teachings are doing this which is unfortunate and betrayal of their master.

The last part of Mr. Arun’s interview given to ‘Sadhana Path’ reads as under:-

“I want to say to the people who want to understand Osho, to follow only that which has been compiled in the form of 700 books and audio discourses. They should not listen to those who are carrying on business in the name of Osho. Most of what Pune ashram says is also false. They are trying to spoil Osho’s work. They say that Osho sannyas has been stopped, this is deceit. People should not come in their impact. At last I will say: neither listen to me nor to those who are managing Pune ashram nor anybody else; follow only that which Osho has said in 700 books and ten thousand discourses.”

Mr. Arun is advising the people to follow only what Osho has said in 700 books and ten thousand discourses. In response to this we want to ask him whether he has read 700 books or listened to ten thousands discourses of Osho. What he is doing in the name of Osho’s work itself shows that he himself does not have sufficient knowledge of what Osho has said:-

Osho Himself has stopped sannyas initiation and giving Mala. Sannyas celebration still happens in Osho International Meditation Resort, Pune, but nobody gives sannyas; people take it direct from the existence; the role of middlemen has been stopped. But Swami Anand Arun having no knowledge of this still is following the same dead tradition.

Osho had again repeated His declaration of stopping the ritual of giving Sannyas in reply to a question in the series ‘Komplein Phir Phoot Aayeen’ which is reproduced below:

But how long can one play the joke of gadhas and ganeshas; apples and pineapples? Now Sannyas has matured. Now, formalities no longer have an important place.”

“Now, if you are in love, become a disciple. It is not something even to be talked about. Now, no need even to let anyone know: if it is your feeling, be a sannyasin. Now, the whole responsibility is yours. This is the sign of being mature. How long can I walk along with you, holding your hand? Before my hands are removed, I have to let go of your hands by myself, so that you can stand on your own feet – relying on your own hands, your own responsibility – and walk.”

SWAMI ANAND ARUN HAS SPOILED OSHO WHITEROBE MEETING ALSO

Since Osho’s physical presence and up till now, Osho White Robe Brotherhood Meeting in Buddha Hall commences at 07-00 P.M.  and is the focal point of each day. The entire commune is assembled by 06-30 P.M. to be together to feel the presence of Osho. A notice was seen in the Osho International Meditation Resort which read:
“Please be in Gautama the Buddha Auditorium by 06-30, as the Commune gates will be closed at this time. Come freshly showered and with no fragrance of any kind, and dressed in a clean white robe.”
The meeting begins with high-energy music, reaching a climax with shouts of “Osho.” A total participation in this build-up of energy berings a deeper silence in the meditation that follows.
Although the energy in these meetings is intense, Osho says:
“There should be no whistling – it is not a football match. This lowers and makes the meditation like a circus.”
Also, in response to a sannyasin’s question about whether he should control his desire to scream in Gautama the Buddha Auditorium or just let go, Osho says:
“You are wasting your energy in screaming. Divert it to high-going energy. Do Dynamic Meditation for the cathartic energy. Don’t scream – be joyous and allow the energy to move in a blissful way so nobody is disturbed; rather they are helped.”

We had the chance to have a look on the time schedule of meditation programmers in Osho Tapovan, Nepal which shows:
1.   07-00 P.M. Prayer    2.  08-30 P.M. Osho White Robe Meditation.
This appeared very strange and astonishing because in view of strict guidelines of Osho the correct time for Osho Whiterobe Meeting is 07-00 P.M. local time. Osho Tapovan of Swami Anand Arun carries out prayer at 07-00 P.M. which is the time for Osho White Robe. People in their meetings can be seen catharting which is not allowed. We have even seen a Hindu fanatic and close associate of Swami Ramdev, addressing Osho White Robe Meeting in their Meditation Camp which is shameful. This is going against the guidelines of Osho. Moreover, there is no place for prayer in Osho’s vision because it means searching something outside oneself whereas Osho says to go inward.

One day you are going to be a god. But it is not going to happen by prayer.”
The religions which believe in God are bound to believe in prayer. That’s why in the West meditation
has never developed. Only religions that don’t believe in God have developed meditation. Because
God is out there somewhere, you have to pray, you have to depend on him. If he listens, good, if he
does not listen, what can you do?”

“Meditation is developed by those whose god is inside. That’s where I find people like Jesus Christ
contradictory. On the one hand he says, ”The kingdom of God is within.” And then every day he prays to a God somewhere above the skies. This is a simple contradiction which cannot be explained in any way. If God is within, then meditation is the way, not prayer. Pray to whom? To yourself? That is the only way of getting deeper into your consciousness and finding the godliness which I call sachchidanand.” (Sat Chit Anand # 11)

Swami Anand Arun has been advising others to follow what Osho has said in His 700 books and 10,000 discourses and not to follow what people in Osho International Meditation Resort advise. But what he has been doing in his own Ashram is just the opposite. He is going on his own way. There is no harm in it also but he should stop using the name of Osho.

“You are free to do whatever you want, but then don’t use my name.”…….(OSHO)

Mr. Arun himself is not following that which he is preaching to others. Who has asked him to go out as a missionary and preach others before his own awakening? The first phase of Osho’s work, when such messengers were required, has since long been passed. After a period of long silence and experiment of commune in America, Osho’s emphasis was to make His words available to as many people as possible by using all means of communication available. He never said to go as an individual and preach what He has said and gather followers to become their leaders which  is the way how an organized religion is born and a wrong trend of hierarchy starts.

FIRST AWAKEN YOURSELF AND THEN WORK TO AWAKE OTHERS

Osho has said to first work upon oneself to awaken and don’t bother for others before becoming enlightened. We ask Mr. Arun has he read the following words of Osho and is he following them?:

NOW I SEE THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIFT MY LIFE CAN GIVE TO YOU IS NOT TO WORSHIP YOU OR HELP YOUR WORK ON THIS EARTH. IT IS NOT EVEN TO LOVE YOU. OUT OF YOUR COMPASSION, AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIFT MY LIFE CAN GIVE TO YOU IS MY OWN ENLIGHTENMENT. PLEASE, OSHO, GIVE ME A TECHNIQUE TO PREPARE MY MEDITATION.

Raso, the way your understanding has been growing is perfectly the right way and the right direction. The only thing you should think of is enlightenment. Yes, that is the only gift you can give to me: your enlightenment. Everything else is trivia. So your conclusion has my absolute, categorical approval.

Once you are committed, once you have decided wholeheartedly that enlightenment is the only purpose of being here in the world, of being alive, then a single pointed awareness – just like an arrow moving towards its target – begins in you.
(The Last Testament)

In regard to this let me also tell you that the people in this world who make the efforts to gather followers so that people can fall under their influence are not good people. They are egoist. They want to take the peak of their ego higher and higher. They want to stand on your shoulders and touch the stars in the sky.
(The Diamond Sword)
“And you have asked how we can make meditation a great movement. Don’t be worried about making it a great movement because this is how the mind is very tricky. You will forget all about your meditation and you will be concerned about the movement – how to make it big, how to make it worldwide, how to make many more people meditate. If they are not willing then force them to meditate. It has been done; the whole of history is the proof.”
                                                                                                                        (Osho Upanishad # 6)

PEOPLE LIVE IN LIES, THEY WILL WELCOME ONLY THE LIERS

Osho was not welcomed by America and other twenty countries of the world. Whereas many religious leaders, even though they were not enlightened, had visited the same country America and were welcomed. They received warm welcome from the priests as well as from the politicians there. At present also, some people who call themselves messengers of Osho are also welcomed in America as well as in other countries. How this change has happened? They are welcomed because they became selective and compromised with the rebellious part of Osho’s teachings. This they have done to get adoration, respectability and adjust to the status quo, whether it is religious or political and social. An enlightened master like Osho is a fire for the prejudices of the masses; it is dangerous to spread this fire. Therefore, the missionaries of such master being cowards change many things – leave aside all that is rebellious and fiery and compromise with the beliefs of established religions, social and political conventions to make themselves comfortable and secure. Therefore, nobody objects for their presence and preaching. Osho has explained this unfortunate and inevitable development in the following words in reply to a question:-

BELOVED OSHO,

DURING MY SANNYAS DARSHAN YOU SPOKE TO ME AT LENGTH ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO BUDDHA'S TEACHINGS AFTER BUDDHA LEFT HIS BODY. I HEARD YOU SAY THAT BUDDHA'S DISCIPLES COMPROMISED BUDDHA'S TEACHING. THEY CREATED SAFE RELIGIONS, AND THUS COMPROMISED. YOU TOLD ME, "DO NOT COMPROMISE." WHILE YOU WERE SPEAKING THESE WORDS TO ME, I HEARD ANOTHER COMMUNICATION. THE REQUEST THAT I SILENTLY HEARD SPOKEN WAS, "DO NOT LET IT HAPPEN TO ME." SINCE THAT DAY I HAVE CONTINUALLY LOOKED FOR WHAT I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO TO FULFILL THIS REQUEST. MUCH TO MY WONDER, I KNOW WHAT TO DO, I KNOW HOW TO FULFILL THE UNSPOKEN REQUEST -- BUT I WANT YOUR GUIDANCE. WILL YOU PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR SPECIFIC GUIDANCE?

“What happened to Gautam Buddha and his teachings is almost the rule, not the exception. The moment the master leaves his body, the disciples start compromising with the surrounding world to survive, to continue to exist.
And truth is something that cannot be compromised.”

“Just Gautam Buddha's teachings... five hundred years afterwards, there was not a single Buddhist in the whole of India. The greatest man who has ever walked on the earth, and the most refined teaching and the most clear perception of truth simply disappeared like a dream.”

“One wonders -- it has not happened to Christianity, it has not happened to
Mohammedanism, it has not happened to Jainism. So the complexity of the phenomenon has to be understood.”

“The people who had followed Gautam Buddha refused to compromise. That was the
cause of the disappearance of Buddhism from India. The Buddhists were either killed,
burned alive or forcibly converted into Hinduism, or the fortunate ones escaped to the
neighboring countries.”

“In a way, it was a blessing in disguise because the Buddhists who escaped India spread
all over Asia and converted the whole continent to the teachings of Gautam Buddha.
But the problem was, they had learned something that a disciple should never learn: they had learned in India that if you insist for truth, crucifixion is the result. If you want to
survive, you have to compromise with all kinds of lies which are prevalent.
What they did not do in India they did in China, they did in Japan, they did in Korea, they did in Ceylon. All over Asia they compromised with the local population, its
superstitions, its ancient ideologies unfounded on truth, just created out of fear. But
because they compromised with them, they survived. And it was not only that they
survived, they became very respectable. Buddhism became the religion of the whole of
Asia except India.”

“Truth cannot be so cheap. And truth cannot be so appealing to such a big mob.
The crowd psychology is, that whatever it believes should be accepted as true; then there is a possibility of fifty-fifty: "You believe something from us, we will take something from you."
But truth knows no fifty-fifty.
It has to be a hundred percent pure; otherwise it is worse than a lie.
So when I said to you, "Don't compromise" I was saying many things in that.
First, to compromise means that convenience and survival are more important to you than truth.”
“Secondly, it means that truth is not a revolution but a business; that it is not a
transformation of your being but a social conformity.
Thirdly, it means that you will never find yourself on the path. Once you have learned to compromise, you have started going astray.
Not to compromise is one of the basic, essential principles to follow if you want to find truth in its purity and full glory.
And when I said this to you, certainly you heard rightly something more which was not said: "Please don't do it to me."

“My whole effort is to make you individuals, courageous enough even to stand against the whole world. If you feel that you are right and you are experiencing the truth in your
innermost core, then the whole world may be against you -- it does not matter. Then even crucifixion is nothing but a seal of validity.”
“A man who can go to his crucifixion laughing has proved beyond doubt that he knows
something more than the mortal body.”
(Beyond Enlightenment)

At the end we want to quote the words of Swami Anand Arun: “people in general have very low consciousness.” Therefore, they easily fall in the impact of outer look of anything. They don’t take the trouble of looking deep into anything. They believe in pomp and show and advertisement, whether it is of a person or of a place. But meditation flowers in absolute aloneness; it is the flight of the alone to the alone. Everything outer – beautiful Ashrams with attractive surroundings headed by saintly looking leaders and thronged by many followers from all over the world are meaningless and of no help so far as the inner journey is concerned. But the herd-instinct of man’s animal heritage keeps him attached to the groups and crowed. There he feels comfortable and secure. Aloneness looks dangerous and fearful. This instinct to be in the crowed serves twin purposes – it sends the man in search of a father figure and crowed; secondly it satisfy the desire of the people who are after power, prestige and money by being leaders of such people. But this all has nothing to do with the spiritual search. This keeps man enslaved as he is. This also is going on in the world of Osho which is unfortunate.
The purpose of our above write up is not to advise Swami Anand Arun to stop that which is not in accordance with Osho’s vision. He may continue whatever he wants to do because there are many people who need such half truths. We have written here for those who are authentic seekers of truth and make them aware about cheap things in spirituality.
